Evan Gordon update
Guard Evan Gordon, who led Liberty’s men’s basketball team in scoring in the 2010-11 season, will play his final two seasons at Arizona State.
Gordon announced in late March his intention to transfer after two seasons with the Flames. He was a second-team All-Big South conference performer as a Liberty sophomore and was the team’s most reliable 3-point shooting threat, along with being its best on-ball defender.
Gordon, an Indianapolis native who played post-grad basketball at Hargrave Military Academy, expressed an interest in playing point guard, an opportunity he wouldn’t have had at Liberty next season with Jesse Sanders entrenched at the position. The move will allow him to be closer to his older brother, Los Angeles Clippers guard Eric Gordon. L.A. is a six-hour drive, or a one-hour plane ride, away from Arizona State’s Tempe campus.
The Sun Devils were 12-19 last season and lost in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament to Oregon. By the time Gordon is eligible to play in the 2012-13 season, he’ll be competing in the Pac-12. The league recently expanded, adding Utah and Colorado.
Gordon’s father, Eric Sr., played at Liberty in the 1980s.
