Game blog: Liberty at Lafayette
I’ll be posting updates on my Twitter feed during the game. You can follow the feed here.
Snapped a bunch of pics from around Fisher Stadium, just to give everyone a feel for what the place looks like:
Here’s the view of the FieldTurf as you step out of the main concourse heading down to the field level.
One end zone, looking down at the Kerry Sports Center, where the Leopards play basketball.
The other end zone, looking down at the Bourger Varsity Football House, the Leopards’ impressive football field house.
The Leopards will rush out of the mouth of this inflated Leopard before the game.
My home for the evening.
Lafayette has quite the scoreboard/videoboard set up at one corner of the stadium.
What you see when you walk inside the Bourger House.
We all remember these football uniforms, right?
A look at one set of Lafayette championship rings.
And the other set of rings.
View of the walls behind the benches at Fisher Stadium.
All in all, this is quite the impressive facility.

Now, for some game notes, in numerical order:
1. This hasn’t been the easiest week for me logistically, as covering the Hillcats has prevented me from making it to practice all week. The last time I talked to anyone associated with Liberty football was Tuesday, so I’m not as up on the Tommy Beecher situation as I should be. Not much to do about that. Anyway, he’s going to be a game-time decision here, and the gut feeling I’m getting is that he’s not going to play, which means Mike Brown would start at QB. Beecher is dressed and he on the field now warming up with the quarterbacks, so I could be wrong on this. But Beecher had a history of concussions at South Carolina and I could see the Flames training staff erring on the side of caution here.
1a. Obviously, Brown is a fine option at quarterback. But with him taking snaps, it will be imperative for Chris Summers and Freddie Brown to play well today. Jimmy Eden had a nice game last week, and he could be another big option for the Flames.
1c. Brown is the one warming up right now with first-team center Mario Cosby.
2. Quick shoutout to the Lafayette fans on Any Given Saturday who recommended Morici’s in downtown Easton for a pregame meal. Pretty tasty calzone there.
3. This is a pretty cool little campus. It has a small-college sort of feel with lots of older buildings tucked among hills and narrow streets.
4. Quick musical note: Downloaded Muse’s new record “The Resistance” for the drive up here. If you’re a fan of the band, pick it up immediately. Very epic sound, with kind of a Queen feel to it at times.
5. This is Liberty’s first road game against a Patriot League club. The Flames faced Lehigh and Lafayette at home and lost both games. I’ve been told Lehigh and Lafayette don’t really like each other.
6. Liberty’s perceived schedule strength took a huge hit today when North Carolina Central lost at home to non-scholarship Morehead State in double overtime.
7. Lafayette’s Davis Rodriguez, who missed three field goals at Georgetown last week, has been crushing field goals from 50 yards today with regularity in warm-ups. As a side note, you can never trust guys with two last names.
That’s all for now. I’ll post some Twitter updates during the game.
