Hillcats gameday, 8/17
The radar continues to be active, but City Stadium is in some sort of rain-free bubble. It rained for a good 40 minutes out at LCA’s football practice, approximately four miles from the stadium. I’m told the stadium only got a few drops. Let’s get right to it:

Quick notes:
—After a long stint on the disabled list with a sprained left wrist, SS Miguel Rojas has been activated after a quick stint with the AZL Reds in Goodyear. Rojas was hitting .224 with one home run and 14 RBIs at the time of the injury. There was no corresponding move, since the demotion of Blair Carson back to Dayton left the Hillcats with 24 men on the roster.
—It’s unlikely we’ll see any of the other disabled Hillcats again this season. Alex Buchholz, who has been out since June, went to see a hand specialist in Cincinnati and is in Goodyear rehabbing. Mark Serrano and Andrew Means have headed to Arizona as well.
—The Reds signed this year’s first-round draft choice, Yasmani Grandal, at the deadline Monday night, but don’t expect to see him in Lynchburg this season. According to this Cincinnati Enquirer article, Grandal will report to Goodyear before heading to the Reds’ advanced rookie affiliate in Billings, Mont. He’ll participate in instructional league in the fall after that. He could feasibly start next season in High-A, but we don’t even know if the Reds will still be around next season.
—Former Hillcat Devin Mesoraco has been promoted to Triple-A. What a year he’s had. He’s gone from one the Reds’ biggest question marks to a minor-league player of the year candidate.
—By the way, that’s not a typo on Zeke Spruill’s stats. The Pelicans pitcher has only walked three batters in nine starts. That’s pretty impressive.
