Hillcats gameday, 8/18
We’ll do this as a time lapse post:
3:00 p.m.—I arrive at the stadium four hours before first pitch because every time it’s cloudy at the house, Verizon’s internet goes spotty, meaning I needed someplace to work. Why not here?
3:05 p.m.—Several team employees are playing two-ball on the concourse, and the skies open. The rain that has missed City Stadium for the last few days pours down.
3:32 p.m.—The temperature has dropped to 73 degrees, and the rain hasn’t stopped. The warning track has disappeared in a puddle, and the outfield grass is soaked. If there’s a baseball game here tonight, I’ll be stunned.
3:34 p.m.—The radar shows green all the way to the middle of Kentucky. That’s not good for baseball.
3:41 p.m.—Hillcats grounds guru Darren Johnson is trudging around in the outfield, assessing the damage. He’s currently frolicking in a puddle near the scoreboard.
3:42 p.m.—OK, I made up the part about the frolicking.
3:58 p.m.—Just opened the final Diet Mountain Dew in the press box refrigerator. Scott Bacon will not be pleased.
4:00 p.m.—Kevin Coddington is throwing the football around outside. Josh Fellhauer and Cody Puckett out running patterns.
4:03 p.m.—Hillcats interns out ready to dump the rain off the tarp. Not the funnest part of the day, skies are lightening.
4:17 p.m.—Tarp dump time. Good thing the Hillcats’ workers bring a change of clothes with them. It’s kind of messy.
4:20 p.m.—Off to Liberty to watch football practice. Will report back soon ...
5:39 p.m.—Liberty wasn’t practicing. But I did manage to get that LCA interview I needed for a preview. So not a totally fruitless trip. Tarp is still on the field. Players are out goofing around. Curtis Partch throwing the pigskin around now. Still no word on whether or not there’s going to be a game here tonight.
5:45 p.m.—The tarp is coming off the field. Lineups are in. Look for more rain updates on my Twitter feed @ChrisLangLNA.

—Shane Carlson enters tonight on a 13-game hit streak. The longest streak this season by a Hillcat was Kyle Day’s 15-game streak.
—Pelicans pitcher Paul Clemens is of no relation to Roger Clemens.
