Liberty-Stony Brook game blog
Game updates will be on the Twitter feed, provided the press box wireless keeps me logged in here.
Quick pre-game notes:
1. I’m an idiot and left my camera sitting in my home office, so no photos today. Too bad. This is a pretty cool facility. It used to seat around 2,500, but the school added an upper deck in one end zone and built a pretty nice press-box facility. There’s definitely a commitment to facilities and scholarships here.
2. Pre-game musical selections are running the gamut here. There’s the usual “Zombie Nation,“ along with the theme from “Flashdance,“ songs by Busta Rhymes and Pearl Jam and something that sounds like T-Pain but might not really be T-Pain.
3. Way down the road from here in Radford, Liberty’s volleyball team will face Coastal Carolina at 2 p.m. for the Big South volleyball championship. The Flames have won the last two Big South championships. Coastal upset top-seed UNC Asheville last night to earn a spot in today’s title match.
4. Now some DMX. Is it too much to ask for a little MF Doom?
5. Stony Brook is unbeaten at home this season with wins over Brown (21-20), Presbyterian (52-14) and Coastal Carolina (16-10). That’s right, just four home games. Iona was supposed to be on SBU’s schedule as well, but of course the Gaels folded their football program.
6. As far as scoreboard watching goes, most of the games of interest for Liberty start at either 1 or 2 p.m. The games to watch:
- Northern Iowa at Illinois State; Eastern Washington at Northern Arizona, Elon at Samford, South Dakota State at Western Illinois, Montana at Montana State, Cal Poly at Weber State.
6a. Speaking of scoreboard watching, how about Tennessee State’s win at Eastern Illinois Thursday? Remember what Danny Rocco said about internal motivation for playing football games? That’s a perfect example right there. Just because you have more to play for doesn’t mean you’ll always win. A good lesson for the Flames today.
7. Stony Brook was working a lot on onsides kicks in pregame warm-ups.
