* No Kyle Ohman tonight for Liberty. He’s now missed five games with a broken wrist.
* I’m guessing the crowd here tonight will be in the triple digits. I just don’t see a lot of people venturing out to catch a hoops game tonight, even if the roads are mostly clear. (Kudos to the city of Lynchburg for getting the roads cleared quickly. It helped we didn’t get the sort of accumulation that was predicted. But I was pleasantly surprised to see my neighborhood street was plowed by 8 a.m. today).
* This really is a must-win for the Flames if they want to stay in the hunt for a home game in the upcoming conference tournament. Liberty got some help today from Coastal Carolina, as the Chanticleers routed UNC Asheville, dropping the Bulldogs to 7-6. Your up-to-the-second standings:
Coastal Carolina—11-2
Winthrop—9-4
Radford—8-4
High Point—6-5
Liberty—6-5
UNC Asheville—7-6
Charleston Southern—6-6
Gardner-Webb—3-9
VMI—3-10
Presbyterian—2-10
* Chase Holmes leads Presbyterian in scoring off the bench at 13.8 points per game, and he rebounded from a scoreless effort last Saturday against Charleston Southern by scoring 21 at VMI Thursday. Holmes only played five minutes against the Bucs, but he wasn’t injured or ill. He played 23 minutes against the Keydets.
* Thursday’s loss to Winthrop was just the fourth game this season in which LU never held a lead. The Flames also never led against Clemson, Old Dominion and High Point.
* Winthrop wins again today, beating VMI. Don’t look now, but the Eagles are 8-1 in conference since a 1-3 start, with the only loss coming at UNC Asheville.
* That’s all for now.
