The last Hillcats gameday for 2010
I can say with some certainty that today will be the final opportunity for local fans to watch the Hillcats play at City Stadium this season. Lynchburg entered today 4 1/2 games behind Potomac in the North with eight to play. Even if the Hillcats win out, the Nationals would have to go 2-5 in the season’s final week just for there to be a tie atop the division. The likelihood of both conditions being met are about 1 in 4.7 million (just off the top of my head), so ... let’s get to the lineups:
WILMINGTON (32-28)
Adrian Ortiz lf (.289-1-31-28)
Christian Colon ss (.270-3-27-0)
Wil Myers c (.339-3-29-1)
Ernesto Mejia 1b (.298-5-20-0)
Nick Francis rf (.283-12-54-8)
Salvador Perez dh (.280-7-51-1)
Eddie Prasch 3b (.199-2-16-0)
Rey Navarro 2b (.234-5-35-5)
Patrick Norris cf (.242-1-39-30)
LHP Will Smith (3-1, 2.95 ERA, 6 G, 6 GS, 39 2/3 IP, 31 H, 13 ER, 4 BB, 37 K)
LYNCHBURG (29-31)
Brodie Greene lf (.281-1-19-7)
Cody Puckett 2b (.272-18-53-17)
Neftali Soto 1b (.262-18-67-0)
Chris Richburg dh (.311-5-25-0)
Shane Carlson 3b (.293-2-16-2)
Ryan LaMarre cf (.333-1-3-1)
Kyle Day rf (.278-6-44-5)
Miguel Rojas ss (.229-1-14-12)
Jordan Wideman c (.231-0-6-0)
RHP Chase Ware (1-3, 3.83 ERA, 15 G, 6 GS, 42 1/3 IP, 40 H, 18 ER, 17 BB, 31 K)
Notes:
—Maybe the Hillcats should just pitch around Wilmington’s Salvador Perez. Check out his line in his last three games against Lynchburg: 8-for-12 (.667), 4 HR, 10 RBI, 4 R. In fact, six of Perez’s seven home runs this season have come against the Hillcats.
—Meanwhile, Cody Puckett has hit six of his 18 home runs against the Blue Rocks.
—Wilmington has already won the season series, taking 12 of 19 from the Hillcats thus far.
—Wilmington starter Will Smith came to the Royals’ organization in a trade with the Angels earlier this season. He’s pitched in both Triple-A and Double-A this season, so it’s no real surprise that he’s pitching well for the Blue Rocks. He’s struck out 37 and walked just four in six starts. He hasn’t faced the Hillcats yet.
