Weekly picks, Liberty notes, 9/10

Let’s hit the picks here right away:

LAST WEEK’S RECORD 27-3 (.900)
SEASON RECORD 27-3 (.900)

I missed on Richmond, William & Mary and Grambling last week. Great week for FCS teams against their FBS brethren. Three victories and a bunch of games within a score or two.

First, the Big South picks. Home team is capitalized:

- LIBERTY 41, North Carolina Central 17
- #14 WOFFORD 38, Charleston Southern 10
- Gardner-Webb 24, WESTERN CAROLINA 20
- #10 Elon 44, PRESBYTERIAN 20
- COASTAL CAROLINA 19, Monmouth 14
- COLGATE 34, Stony Brook 17

Now picks from The Sports Network’s FCS Top 25:

- #1 Richmond 27, DELAWARE 24
- #2 APPALACHIAN STATE 34, #16 McNeese State 17
- #3 VILLANOVA 40, Lehigh 7
- #4 NORTHERN IOWA 35, South Dakota 10
- #5 Montana 31, UC Davis 20
- MARYLAND 31, #6 James Madison 7
- #7 WILLIAM & MARY 28, Central Connecticut State 24
- #9 New Hampshire 20, BALL STATE 14 (though at some point, UNH’s streak of FBS wins has to end ... Ball State looked terrible at home against North Texas last week.)
- COLORADO STATE 31, #11 Weber State 17
- #12 CAL POLY 41, Sacramento State 15
- #15 South Carolina State 27, BETHUNE-COOKMAN 7
- #17 MASSACHUSETTS 30, Albany 27
- CALIFORNIA 60, #18 Eastern Washington 7
- #20 Maine 17, NORTHEASTERN 0
- Georgia Southern 24, #21 SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 20
- #25 HOLY CROSS 28, Sacred Heart 3

Now for some links:

- North Carolina Central is trying to shrug off its season-opening loss at Hampton, writes the Durham Herald-Sun’s Joe Johnson.

- There’s no room for Appalachian State on James Madison’s future schedules, and that has some players wondering why the Dukes have signed on to play Liberty the next four seasons, the Daily News Record’s Mark Selig writes.

- North Carolina Central has gotten the green light to join the MEAC, the Raleigh News & Observer’s Edward G. Robinson III writes.

Quick update from Thursday’s practice:

—Nothing new on the injury front. TE Will Quarles‘ Charley horse is healed and he’s ready to go.
