Allen named ACC player of the week

Virginia Tech forward Jeff Allen was named ACC player of the week for the second time this season and the third time of his career.

Allen, a senior from Washington, D.C., had double-doubles in two games last week and also passed two major career milestones.

He scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 77-69 win at N.C. State on Wednesday night and passed the 1,500-point plateau in the process.

On Saturday, Allen had 25 points, 19 rebounds and three steals in Tech’s 58-56 loss at Boston College. He recorded his 1,000th career rebound against the Eagles and moved past Allan Bristow into fourth place on the Hokies’ career rebounding list.

Allen has four straight double-doubles and 11 this season. He has 39 career double-doubles, the most among active ACC players.

This is the second ACC player of the week award for Allen. It’s the fourth time this season a Hokies player has earned the award. Senior guard Malcolm Delaney has been honored twice and sophomore guard Erick Green one.

Allen is second in the ACC in rebounding (10.0). He is the leader among active ACC players in career rebounds and steals and is second in career blocked shots and fourth in career scoring.

The Hokies return to action on Sunday afternoon when they host Georgia Tech at 1 p.m.
