Football team honored at halftime
Tech recognized its Orange Bowl winning football team at halftime of Saturday’s basketball game. Hokies coach Frank Beamer, his assistant coaches and many of the players who won the ACC championship and Orange Bowl this year came out onto the court to a loud cheer from the Tech fans, who didn’t have much to cheer about during the first half of the basketball game.
Cornerback Stephan Virgil ran around holding the ACC championship trophy above his head, and the Orange Bowl trophy, full of oranges of course, was wheeled onto the court on a cart.
“This basketball team needs our help in the second half,” Beamer said.
Tech’s basketballers are behind 36-25. Duke guard Gerald Henderson is helping his case for first-team All-ACC recognition. He has 17 points on 8 of 13 shooting.
