Greenberg rounds out staff
Virginia Tech basketball coach Seth Greenberg rounded out his staff Wednesday with the announced hiring of new assistant John Richardson, formerly an assistant coach at Old Dominion.
Richardson spent five seasons at ODU, the first three as director of basketball operations and the last two as an assistant.
He rose to the college ranks after a successful tenure as coach at Woodside High in Newport News. He won two Group AAA championships there, in 2004 and 05, and was named the Virginia High School Coaches Association’s Group AAA coach of the year after both of those seasons.
Richardson is one of two new assistant coaches for the Hokies, who finished tied for third in the ACC last season and made it to the quarterfinal round of the National Invitation Tournament.
Adrian Autry, previously Tech’s director of men’s basketball operations, was promoted to assistant coach in May.
Richardson and Autry fill the openings left by the departures of Bill Courtney, who was named head coach at Cornell, and Ryan Odom, who took an assistant coaching job at Charlotte.
