Households, viewers, ratings ... here’s how the Virginia Tech-Boise State telecast stacked up
Virginia Tech’s Labor Day game against Boise State was viewed by 7,251,601 households, which is a re-cord for an ESPN college football game (regular season or bowl).
The Broncos’ 33-30 win over the Hokies drew a 7.3 rating. That ties for the second-highest TV rating for a regular-season college football game since 1994.
Here’s an explanation on how TV ratings are recorded. I’m still trying to figure out the BCS.
The VT-BSU game had 9,888,000 total viewers, ranking it as ESPN’s second-most viewed college football game among total viewers.
ESPN’s coverage of Southern Cal-Ohio State last season averaged 10,586,000 viewers and 7,243,011 households. It also drew a 7.3 rating.
The highest rated ESPN college football game since 1994 was the 1994 Florida State-Miami game, which drew a 7.7 rating.
