Logan Thomas to open camp at QB
It appears Logan Thomas will be at quarterback when Virginia Tech opens preseason practice Thursday. He was listed as the Hokies’ third quarterback, behind starter Tyrod Taylor and backup Ju-Ju Taylor, on a preseason depth chart released today by Tech’s athletics communications office. No way of telling if Thomas will stay at QB. He has been projected as a tight end and H-back as well. It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up by the end of camp.
I’m hoping to catch Logan for a few minutes after practice Thursday, so I’ll give you guys and update on everything he’s been up to.
I’m not going to post the entire depth chart, but here are some other interesting developments ...
**Barquell Rivers will open camp as the No. 1 mike linebacker, and Jake Johnson is the top backer. Rashad Carmichael is No. 1 at field cornerback. Matt Waldron is the No. 1 placekicker.
**A few starting jobs are open to start camp. Nekos Brown and converted tight end Chris Drager are co-No. 1s at stud end. Cody Grimm and Cam Martin are co-No. 1s at whip linebacker. Dorian Porch and Davon Morgan are co-No. 1s at rover. On offense, both wide receiver spots appear open. Danny Coale and Dyrell Roberts will start camp in a dead heat for the flanker job, and Jarrett Boykin and Xavier Boyce are co-No. 1s at split end.
**Freshman David Wang, younger brother of starting left tackle Ed Wang, will start camp as the co-No. 2 with Richard Graham at right guard.
**Brookville grad Josh Eadie, who won a walk-on tryout in the spring, will be back for preseason practice. He’ll start camp as the No. 4 stud end.
**GW-Danville grad David Wilson is No. 4 on the depth chart at tailback. Ryan Williams is No. 3, behind Darren Evans and Josh Oglesby.
