Polls, injuries and recruiting news
As expected Virginia Tech took a pretty substantial jump in both major polls after beating No. 9 Miami Saturday. It moved up five spots to No. 6 in the Associated Press poll and six spots up to No. 6 in the coaches’ poll.
It may be way too early to talk about the national championship picture, but the Hokies are back in it after their latest big victory.
Here’s the top 10 of both polls released earlier today.

ON THE INJURY FRONT …Virginia Tech released this injury update earlier this afternoon:
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor suffered a chipped front tooth running a sneak early in the fourth quarter Saturday against Miami. His mouth was swollen and bloody and he received treatment immediately after the game. He is expected to see a dentist today.
Rover Davon Morgan suffered an undisclosed shoulder injury in the first half and did not return.
Right tackle Blake DeChristopher suffered a left ankle sprain in the first half and missed a few snaps.
Left guard Sergio Render had the breath knocked out of him in the first half and missed a few snaps.
Linebacker Jake Johnson suffered a left ankle injury in the second half and missed a few snaps.
AND ON TO RECRUITING …
According to Rivals.com, Virginia Tech received a football commitment for 2010 from Virginia Beach safety Nick Dew.
The 6-2, 183-pound Dew, who plays at First Colonial High, is Rivals’ No. 18 prospect in the state of Virginia. He commited to the Hokies Saturday.
