Practice quickie
Just got back from talking to Billy Hite. He was happy to have his full stable of tailbacks in practice today for the first time in a while, but he wasn’t thrilled by their play.
To be fair, school just started Monday, which can be a bit distracting, and David Wilson (shoulder) and Josh Oglesby (right hamstring, left heel) both missed a ton of practice last week recovering from injuries.
There’s time to get things right, starting with Wednesday’s scrimmage, which is closed to the public and the media. The scrimmage will be especially important for the running backs, none of whom have much actual game experience. In fact, Oglesby is the veteran of the group with 38 carries last season.
Hite said he has no timetable for picking the order in which he’ll play Oglesby, Wilson and Ryan Williams in the opener. He said he could decide the day of the game.
A few other items ...
*Freshman quarterback Logan Thomas is expected to travel with the team for all road games this season. The team would need a third quarterback for emergency purposes. Remember, Tech dug deep into its well of QBs last season at Florida State and played Cory Holt when both Tyrod Taylor and Sean Glennon went down during the game. Thomas will be around for such a scenario.
*Matt Waldron was put on scholarship Monday. He’ll be the team’s starting kicker, barring some kind of unforseen development.
