The Hokies are back in the tournament picture
Virginia Tech’s NCAA tournament resume looks a lot better today after it scored a major 80-77 road victory over No. 12 Clemson on Wednesday night. The Hokies still have work to do, however, if they expect to receive an at large bid.
They have three regular-season games remaining, all of which are against RPI top 20 opponents. If they can win one more game before the ACC tournament and win another down in Atlanta, they would be hard to leave out.
Already, Tech (17-10, 7-6 ACC) has wins against three top 50 RPI teams (Wake Forest, Miami and Clemson). Wake and Clemson, in fact, are both in the top 25, according to RealTimeRPI.com. And the Hokies also beat Boston College, which has beaten both Duke and North Carolina and is sitting right outside the top 50.
The Hokies’ credentials are already more impressive than last year’s, and they still have time to do more before the Selection Committee sits down and decides their fate.
I think two more wins should get them in. I think reaching 20 wins would make them a lock.
Here’s a quick rundown of their credentials …
