Virginia Tech-Miami halftime thoughts
The Hokies had a large first-half lead for a change, and almost coughed it up in a minute’s time.
Tech led 28-15, but the Hurricanes cut into that lead with three straight 3-pointers, two from Adrian Thomas and one from Jack McClinton to get to within four.
Before the Canes 3 spree, the Hokies were in firm control. Forward Jeff Allen, who attempted only two field goals at Florida State on Sunday, has eight points, four rebounds and two steals.
Wing A.D. Vassallo knocked down a 3 early in the second minute to tie Wally Lancaster’s Tech career 3-point record (257).
Guard Malcolm Delaney has seven points and five assists already. He went 4 for 4 from the line and is now six made free throws away from breaking Bimbo Coles’ single-season free throw mark set back in 1986.
By the way, the Hokies started Dorenzo Hudson instead of Hank Thorns. Looked like a smart move by coach Seth Greenberg as Hudson opened the scoring with a 3-pointer a minute in.
Hudson has three points and three rebounds.
