Virginia Tech-UNC halftime blog
Great first half of basketball between the Hokies and Tar Heels. Tech led by as many as seven but UNC, playing without injured point guard Ty Lawson, stormed back with some hot 3-point shooting to take the lead right before halftime.
Forward J.T. Thompson made a nifty reverse layup while being fouled and made the free throw to put the Hokies up 42-41 with 13 seconds left, but Carolina answered on the other end with a hook shot from freshman forward Tyler Zeller with five ticks left.
Still, Tech is definitely playing with a lot of purpose. A.D. Vassallo (10 points five rebounds) has been spot on shooting, but he got into some early foul trouble and sat out the final 8:18 of the first half. PG Malcolm Delaney (11 points, six assists, 3 of 6 shooting) looks like he has his shot back, but he uncharacteristically missed a couple of free throws.
This one is going to come down to the wire.
