Virginia Tech news and notes
Say this about the Hokies – they’re one of the most fashionable teams in college football. They have their relationship with Nike to thank for that.
On Saturday, Tech will wear yet another new uniform combination – called the Nike Pro Combat uniform – which is being advertised as the lightest uniform Nike has ever created.
The jerseys and pants are white. The biggest change for the ensemble is a white VT helmet.
For pictures and more information about the jersey technology, check out Virginia Tech’s athletics Web site.

Maryland will also wear special jerseys for Saturday’s game. Their Under Armour ensemble will include some camouflage elements in recognition of Veteran’s Week.

A COUPLE OF OTHER ITEMS: Ryan Williams (career high 179 rushing yards against ECU on Thursday) was named ACC rookie of the week for the sixth time this season. He is now within reach of the conference record for ACC ROW honors held by former N.C. State quarterback Philip Rivers, who was awarded eight times back in 2000. Former UNC quarterback Darian Durant also earned six ACC ROW awards in 2001.
***Hokies senior linebacker Cody Grimm (12 tackles, sack, fumble recovery vs. ECU) was named ACC defensive back of the week for the second time this season.
***ABC/ESPN has exercised its six-day option on Tech’s Nov. 21 home game with N.C. State. They’ll announce the game time no later than noon on Sunday, Nov. 15.
