Williams probable for Saturday

Tailback Ryan Williams has been battling an illness this week, and according to Virginia Tech’s weekly injury report, is probable for Saturday’s game.

He was experiencing some symptoms Tuesday and still practiced. My gut feeling is this won’t keep him from playing.

Here’s the rest of the injury report …

OUT:
Wide receiver Brandon Dillard (ankle)

PROBABLE:
WR Marcus Davis (ankle)
LB Mark Muncey (knee)
OG Sergio Render (pec strain)
FS Eddie Whitley (ankle)

BEWARE TICKET BUYERS
Georgia Tech issued an alert today for fans wanting to purchase tickets for Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Simply put – don’t buy wristbands and don’t buy standing room only tickets for Saturday’s game. These are bogus and won’t get you into the stadium.

Standing room only tickets don’t exist, and wristbands are not good for admission. Only tickets are.

According to Georgia Tech, there have been reports of these scams for at least two of the Yellow Jackets home football games – this Saturday’s contest against Virginia Tech and the Nov. 28 game against Georgia.

NEWS AND NOTES
Here are some leftover notes from earlier in the week … see you in Atlanta.

*Perusing Virginia Tech’s game notes, I found this staggering stat: Ryan Williams has 45 broken tackles on 126 carries this season.

*Did you know that GT quarterback Josh Nesbitt and VT quarterback Tyrod Taylor are both in the top 10 in career rushing yards by ACC quarterbacks? Nesbitt is sixth with 1,535 and Taylor is ninth with 1,262.

*Taylor has thrown 80 straight passes without an interception. His last pick came on Tech’s second possession of its second game against Marshall, and that wasn’t really a bad throw. If you’ll remember, DeQuan Bembry made a great play in the end zone to snag the INT.

*Tech has played arguably the toughest schedule to this point. Its first six opponents are 24-4 in their games not against Virginia Tech. Alabama (2), Miami (9) and Nebraska (15) are all ranked in the AP top 25.

LATE NIGHT WITH THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will hold their “Late Night with the Hokies” event Friday night at Cassell Coliseum after the Tech volleyball team’s match with Georgia Tech, which begins at 7.

The hour-long Late Night hoops event is expected to start at about 9, and will include some entertaining acts and skits by both teams, including a Dancing with the Stars competition and Evolution of Dance featuring the Hokie Bird.

There will be an Imitation Dunk Competition matching kids versus the Hokies, a 3-point shooting contest and the men’s and women’s 2-on-2 competition. One lucky student will also have a chance to make a halfcourt shot to win free books for a year.

The men’s team will conclude the night with an intra-squad scrimmage lasting approximately 10 minutes.
