Worth the wait
My Virginia Tech story, which was originally scheduled to run in Thursday’s paper, has been preempted in our ever-shrinking paper by big news on the Liberty front – check Chris Lang’s blog for details – and our Lynchburg Hillcats preview page.
Check Friday’s paper for my all-encompassing look at the quarterback position at Tech, from recent developments with starter Tyrod Taylor’s “hitch” to the backup battle between Ju-Ju Clayton and Marcus Davis. There’s news on the Logan Thomas front too. Nothing major, but interesting nonetheless.
I don’t want to scoop my own paper – yes we still produce a newsprint copy of the N&A – so I’ll ask you to come back to our web site later to get the rest of the details.
Also, I caught up with Josh Eadie, the former Brookville football player who recently won a walk-on tryout to participate with the Hokies this spring, and his parents recently. We’ll have his story in Saturday’s paper.
For now, I’ll give you a few tidbits from Wednesday’s mini-scrimmage. Remember, the Hokies scrimmage Friday at Lane Stadium. It’s open to the public and will begin at 4:30 p.m.
*Taylor, who wore a yellow no-contact jersey, attempted only two passes, but he had 67 rushing yards in Wednesday’s 40-play mini-scrimmage. He darted down the left sideline for a 65-yard touchdown run on one play.
*Cornerback Eddie Whitley returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdown.
*Tailback Darren Evans rushed for 28 yards on three carries.
*Quarterback Ju-Ju Clayton completed 3-of-8 pass attempts for 28 yards and an INT.
*Linebacker Jeron Gouveia-Winslow had an INT and a pass breakup.
